HEY YOU! TAMARA DOS SANTOS
We caught up with British/Portuguese/Angolan R&B artist Tamara Dos Santos for a lil chat -
The R&B scene in London is absolutely stunning and quite sonically unique. Who's inspiring you at the moment?
If I’m honest, I’m inspired by everyone. I love the fact that we’re in an age where UK R&B is getting its flowers and is getting the recognition it deserves.
What's next for TDS, and where can people follow you?
I’m super excited for the music I’m creating. Arguably it’s the best body of work I’ve ever created and me and my team are working so hard too. It feels super special. You can find me everywhere.

Hey Tamara, how's it going? What have you been up to lately?
Hey hey, all is good, thank God 🙏🏾. I’ve been working on my EP that I’m releasing this year.
What did music sound like in your home growing up? What does 'home' sound like to you?
Home had a lot of sounds growing up. I’m Angolan so growing up there was a lot of kizomba and semba. What’s special about semba is that Semba is an Angolan music and dance style, often described as the "mother" of Brazilian Samba. So we also listened to a lot of Brazilian music in my home.
R&B always played in my home too. Boys II Men, Brandy, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey - everyone. That was the one genre that always spoke to me the loudest even though I couldn’t speak the language. I guess that was because I felt the most represented seeing them on MTV so I knew I wanted to grow up and be a singer too.
Your recent single 'Tchau' includes the Portuguese language, do you feel a pull to include this part of your heritage in your songwriting?
Most definitely. It’s really important for me to represent my country and culture as much as I can. I want other creatives to see themselves the way I saw the greats and know that nothing can stop us from shining.
