WE TAKE A LIL LOOK INTO ‘A DAY IN THE LIFE’ OF manchester-based EMERGING ARTIST DEE RAE
Dee Rae is a Manchester-based indie folk artist whose poetic lyricism and cinematic soundscapes have quickly made waves in the UK and beyond. Blending delicate, string-laden instrumentation with emotionally rich storytelling, Dee’s music draws influence from the likes of Marika Hackman, Elliott Smith, Big Thief, and Laura Marling—creating a sound that feels both intimate and expansive.
Following a striking 2022 debut with “Silver Wallet,” Dee has steadily built a loyal following through their vulnerable songwriting and captivating live performances, sharing stages with artists such as Francis of Delirium, Katy Kirby, and The Orielles, and making an international debut in Paris. Their latest release, “Purple and Red,” marks the lead single from their forthcoming debut EP and showcases a genre-defying depth that cements Dee as a rising force in the indie music scene.
“Purple and Red” is a lush, atmospheric track that explores femininity, queer identity, and the complex dance between art and industry. Written as a form of self-reassurance, the song evolves from a sparse electric guitar to a full-band crescendo—mirroring Dee’s journey through artistic self-discovery.
Dee Rae is one of four artists selected for Come Play With Me Records’ Next Up North—a groundbreaking artist development program championing emerging artists of marginalised genders and sexualities from the North of England. With a debut headline tour kicking off in May and their EP on the horizon, Dee Rae is an artist on the cusp of something truly special.
