Some songs arrive quietly; others hit like a tidal wave. For Wilder — who began writing music at eight and signed to Secretly Canadian on her eighteenth birthday — ‘Everybody Talks’ emerged from chaos. It’s her first release in two years, born from a gig gone sideways when chatter from the front row sparked an unexpected out-of-body moment.
“I’ve never experienced anything like it. They were chatting through my set — some of it was actually quite funny — but it sent me somewhere else entirely.”
That uneasy mix of humor and disorientation followed her home, where she wrote through the night in her garden shed studio. The result captures the dizzying swirl of intrusive thoughts and defiance that fueled it: “When it feels like the rising waterline of punishing voices is up to your neck, you just have to stand taller and shout louder to keep your head above it.”
