LORG INTRODUCES NEW SOLO ERA WITH “MARATHONIA”
Lorg, the solo project of Lauren Morgan, formerly one half of indie favourites SALES, officially ushers in a new chapter with the release of “Marathonia.” After quietly debuting the project in 2024, Morgan now offers a fuller introduction to their evolving sound.
Glistening, minimalist and subtly electronic, “Marathonia” arrives as Lorg relocates from Asheville to Brooklyn. Exploring themes of change, distance and resilience during a period of upheaval, the track captures a search for stability amid shifting circumstances.
Reflecting on the song, Morgan said it was inspired by the departure of a close friend and the breakdown of a relationship. “I wrote this song for Daniel — athletic, self-assured, a beam of light. I imagined going on a run with him. This song came out of me 100 percent complete.”
Recorded with a blend of home-studio intimacy and carefully considered embellishments, “Marathonia” was built around an unexpected Ableton drum sound and inspired, in part, by the jangling guitars of Big Star. Despite the added studio touches, Morgan says preserving the immediacy of her original recordings remains central to the project. “Three cheers for the stark beauty of a guitar plugged straight into your computer,” they said.
