PROBLEM PATTERNS RETURN WITH FIERCE NEW SINGLE ‘SAD OLD WOMAN’

Belfast DIY feminist queerpunk outfit Problem Patterns are back with a blistering new single, Sad Old Woman, featuring a guest vocal from Matt Korvette of Sub Pop’s Pissed Jeans. The track is set for release on 16th April 2025 via Alcopop! Records.

Premiering on BBC 6 Music’s New Music Fix Daily with Deb Grant and Tom Ravenscroft—and swiftly followed by a spin on Radio X courtesy of John Kennedy—the song is already making noise.

“Sad Old Woman is about accepting the inevitable,” the band explain. “Women are expected to uphold impossible standards as they age, or risk becoming grotesque—or worse, invisible. We wanted to challenge that, and embrace aging as a gift.”

The collaboration with Korvette is a full-circle moment for the band, who credit Pissed Jeans as an early influence. “Our song Mediocre Man was a satirical nod to their track Boring Girls,” they say. “We finally saw them live in Dublin in 2024, gave Matt the pitch—and, true to form, we committed to the bit. He said yes.”

Korvette lends his signature unhinged energy to the track, playing the voice of the inner saboteur in darkly humorous fashion. “We’re endlessly grateful—his manic delivery is perfect,” say Problem Patterns. “From Boring Girls to Mediocre Man to Sad Old Woman, the circle is complete.”

Korvette adds: “They showed up to our gig in homemade Pissed Jeans shirts—and now I’m proud to be on their track. The sad old woman is the woman in me.”
