KATIE PHELAN SHARES BITTERSWEET SINGLE ‘NOTHING STAYS THE SAME’

Irish singer-songwriter Katie Phelan offers a heartfelt preview of her upcoming EP Blues and Greens—out June 11 via 7476—with the warm, nostalgic single Nothing Stays the Same. Marking her first release of the year, the track serves as both a love letter to home and an ode to letting go of the familiar.

“I wrote it in my childhood bedroom on the floor, where I’ve written a lot of my songs, just before moving away from home for the first time,” Phelan shares. “It’s about missing the little mundane things—like the sound of family moving around the house—and realising how important those simple moments are.”

Adding a personal touch, her brother Peter plays piano on the bridge—one of the everyday sounds she says she misses most. “He was always in the room across from me when I wanted to chat. I really miss that.”

The quiet ache of leaving home—its people, rhythms, and the version of yourself rooted there—is at the core of Blues and Greens. Inspired by introspective artists like Billie Marten, Adrienne Lenker and Niamh Regan, Phelan’s EP explores the anxiety and tenderness that come with change. “It’s about being scared of change but grateful to have experienced something you’ll miss so much,” she reflects.

Raised in coastal Stamullen, Co. Meath, Phelan describes a newfound appreciation for the sea and the quiet calm of home life since moving away. The EP’s title, Blues and Greens, nods to the soothing tones of that landscape—offering a sonic space for homesickness, growth, and the tender tension between holding on and moving forward.
