SHURA SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘WORLD’S WORST GIRLFRIEND’
British singer-songwriter and producer Shura returns with her latest single World’s Worst Girlfriend, the third release from her upcoming album I Got Too Sad For My Friends, out May 30 via Play It Again Sam.
Balancing emotional honesty with wry humour, the track blends shimmering synth-pop with Shura’s signature bittersweet tone. “Fuck my life,” she sings over driving toms and glossy synths, turning personal turmoil into something danceable and cathartic.
“World’s Worst Girlfriend is me at my peak dramatic gay,” Shura explains. “It’s about feeling like a terrible partner because instead of going on nice dates, I mostly wanted to stay inside with our cats and play video games.”
Since her last album forevher, Shura’s life has taken unexpected turns. She became a pro-streamer, played Baldur’s Gate 3 twice, and embraced a new gym-hardened persona. But the pandemic brought its own upheaval—cutting short her tour, triggering a health scare, and forcing an emotional reckoning while isolated in New York.
The album’s artwork shows Shura alone on a mountainside in a mix of grunge and armour—part Kurt Cobain, part DiCaprio in Romeo + Juliet. It’s a fitting image for a record that captures solitude and sadness in wide-open, pastoral terms. With a warm blend of chamber pop, ‘60s folk, and campfire Americana, I Got Too Sad For My Friends marks a raw, introspective new chapter in Shura’s evolution.
