ROMANIE RELEASES HAUNTING YET HOPEFUL NEW SINGLE ‘WHEN WILL WE LOSE HOPE?’
Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Romanie has unveiled her emotive new track When Will We Lose Hope?, a raw and heartfelt reflection on perseverance in troubled times. With effortless vocals and introspective lyricism, the single offers a haunting reminder of the bigger picture while holding space for hope.
Written during Adrienne Lenker’s School of Song workshop in January 2024, Romanie says the song was born from a period of uncertainty. “I was feeling lost, wondering if making music was the right thing to do in a time of turmoil, seeing villains rule the world and destroy the planet,” she recalls. “Adrienne spoke about letting yourself feel things to write music. I cried during that lecture and realised making music was the only straightforward thing to do. It’s a sad song, but hope is at its heart — it’s important to keep loving and caring for community.”
When Will We Lose Hope? follows May’s release Uh Oh, marking a new chapter for the Belgian-born artist — one that blends grit, grunge, and tenderness. Since debuting in 2021, Romanie has honed a darker, more textured sound, drawing on influences from Big Thief to The Cure. Her music balances honesty and nuance, channelling the small voice in your head that may not always be cheerful, but still teaches you something about yourself.
