SAKARA SHARES NEW SINGLE ‘SUNFLOWER’

Indie-folk singer-songwriter Sakara returns with “Sunflower,” the second in a run of singles building towards her debut EP. Known for her quietly subversive lyrics exploring self-worth, identity and relationships while navigating disability and chronic illness, Sakara steps back into release mode after a summer of shows including Cambridge Folk Club’s annual folk day and a slot on Glastonbury’s Rumshack stage.

Written in 2020, “Sunflower” is an ode to long-distance friendship — from posted sunflower seeds to exchanged cat photos — and speaks to the bittersweet push and pull of your 20s, where gratitude for the life you have coexists with inevitable disappointments.

“This song has a way of comforting me, not just as a reminder of my friend, but by saying there’s hope in times of loss and disappointment. At the end of that chorus I’m still dancing, still asking “will you shine for me”? And every year the Sunflowers come back and follow through.”

The track continues the themes introduced in her debut single “This Is Reality” (13.03.25), which earned support from BBC Introducing Cambridgeshire & Essex, Cambridge Radio and Songs Behind The Music on Future Hits Radio. Based near Cambridge, Sakara once again collaborates with local musician and producer Francis Botcherby (Parliament of Wolves), pairing reflective storytelling with textured guitars and delicate harmonies.
