AUSTEL SHARES ‘WHITE LINEN’ AHEAD OF NEW ALBUM ‘MIRROR TO MINE’
Artist and producer Austel (Annie Rew Shaw) unveils her intimate new single ‘White Linen’, the final preview of her forthcoming album Mirror To Mine, due 5 June.
A gentle, tranquil offering, ‘White Linen’ serves as a tender ode to family, with Austel’s effortless vocals exploring themes of chosen and inherited bonds. Touching on queerness, acceptance and intergenerational trauma, the track blends simplicity with rich folk textures, further grounded by field recordings captured in her parents’ garden in Devon.
‘This song is based on a surreal dream. I was trapped in this place I thought I wanted to be - on the surface, it was beautiful, but underneath, the woodwork was rotten, the view not so great, the company even less so.
‘White Linen’ sets the tone for Mirror To Mine, Austel’s second album and a significant step forward in her artistry. Self-produced, the record leans into ethereal alt-folk, built around nylon-string guitar, subtle arrangements and immersive field recordings. The album’s release will be followed by a UK tour later in June.
