ROMANIE ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM WITH DEFIANT SINGLE ‘I WON’T YELL’

Romanie returns with her triumphant new single ‘I Won’t Yell’ and news of her forthcoming album It’s Not That Funny, out February 20.

Co-produced with Adam Hyde (Peking Duk, Keli Holiday) and Tom Stell (Golden Features), the track began as a quiet folk song before being transformed during a three-day Sydney writing session into a bold statement of defiance. “We turned this small acoustic song upside down into this powerful statement. It’s about not being heard as a woman — being called ‘too much’ or ‘too loud’, and learning to stop shrinking yourself.”

Belgian-born and now based in Australia, Romanie Assez has built her songwriting around honest, personal storytelling, drawing inspiration from artists like Big Thief, Wet Leg, Mitski and The Cranberries. Since her 2021 debut, she’s steadily evolved her sound into something darker, grittier and more textured, led by pure, expressive vocals and a willingness to confront the thoughts that linger beneath the surface.
