ROMANIE SHARES SECOND ALBUM ‘IT’S NOT THAT FUNNY’

Today, Belgian-born, Australian-based singer-songwriter Romanie unveils her striking second album It’s Not That Funny, marking a bold and deeply personal new chapter. Led by pure vocals, tender lyricism and her unmistakable charm, the record transforms introspective reflections into resonant, endlessly replayable indie-pop.

The album’s title captures its emotional duality — playful yet piercing. “‘It’s Not That Funny’ relates to trying to convince your therapist you’re funny and that anything that’s happened to you wasn’t all that bad.” Romanie explains. Reflecting on her upbringing in Belgium, she notes the cultural pressure to remain resilient, adding that the album instead embraces softness and imperfection while exploring what lies beneath humour.

Across its eleven tracks, Romanie leans fully into artistic honesty and social awareness, confronting complex themes without losing her warmth. Drawing inspiration from artists including Big Thief, Wet Leg, Mitski and The Cranberries, the project reveals a darker, more textured evolution of her sound since debuting in 2021 — nuanced, quietly powerful, and attuned to the inner voice that both challenges and comforts.
