ADA LEA SHARES NEXT TRACK “BOB DYLAN’S 115TH HAIRCUT”
Montreal’s Ada Lea—aka Alexandra Levy—has released “bob dylan’s 115th haircut,” the final preview of her new album when i paint my masterpiece, out Friday via Saddle Creek.
Following the “subtly cinematic, deftly performed and delicately written” (Wonderland) single “midnight magic,” this new track is a standout, closely tied to the album’s title. when i paint my masterpiece nods to a lesser-known Bob Dylan song that Levy says evokes something “so supreme and first-rate that you could never come back down from the mountain.” Her own song is a reflection on that metaphor—how greatness can live in a single take, a brushstroke, a fleeting moment.
“Sometimes I get into these moods where I feel like there will always be a gap between what I want to say, and what I actually end up writing. That night, I was comparing myself to Bob Dylan. And why not? I had to flip the thought: ‘Could he write one like me?’”
She sings: “Bob Dylan couldn’t have written this song / Not even if he wanted to, not even just for fun.”
Levy will support the album with a UK tour this August.
