PHOEBE HALL SHARES PLAYFUL NEW ALT-POP SINGLE ‘BOYFRIEND’
London-based alt-pop singer, songwriter and artist Phoebe Hall releases new single ‘Boyfriend’. Known for their candid songwriting around identity, queerness and lived experience, Hall returns with an upbeat, playful follow-up to their first release in two years, ‘Everything Has Changed’.
Written with fellow artists and longtime friends Ellie Dixon and Evangelista Disco, ‘Boyfriend’ captures the gender euphoria of being loved and fully seen by someone who makes you feel at home. It is a warm, flirty ode to finding a person who allows you to exist without question and brings you back to the present.
“I wanted to capture the joy and euphoria of being loved exactly as you are, whilst also keeping it playful, flirty and fun. This song came from realising that this person has a way of reminding me that, right now, this moment is enough. They make me feel fully seen and bring me back to the present.”
Hall describes the session as their most enjoyable yet. “Working with people you know this well is a totally different process. They pushed me to be vulnerable as well as fun, which adds real depth to a song that feels light and poppy on the surface, but is also telling a very honest queer story.”
“I want to make pop music for queer people, and this feels like my biggest attempt so far. We deserve fun, flirty, big pop music to sing along to.”
